Scenic Spots
Gros Morne
World class scenery. Recommended to fly into/out of Deer Lake as it's very far from St. John's. Suggested to dos are: Gros Morne Mountain, Tablelands, and Western Brook Pond.
Bonavista
Big Falls
A nice waterfall in a provincial park (free entry) where you can watch the Salmon jump. It will likely feel like you're going in the wrong direction as you're going there, but trust maps
Other
Twillingate
Split Peas are a classic if you end up here, a group of women have been playing together for 25 years and it's a laugh
Fogo
Cool spot with that fancy hotel & one of the four corners of the flat earth apparently
Gander
The place where Come From Away is based, not much to do there though
Gander Airport International Lounge
Used to be the mandatory stop for any transatlantic flights, before planes got better lol. It's an incredible mid-century modern designed lounge with a beautiful mural. So random but so cool.
Outport Trail
A fairly long hike to Minchin's cove, can do it in one day but it's long. Would recommend staying over night if doing this, and it's not an absolute must but definitely is off the beaten path a bit. At the trail entrance there's a touch tank and a nice ocean view, but not all that much. It's the Terra Nova park visitor centre
Burgoyne's Cove
Slightly out of the way, but a short walk to a plane crash site (plane is still there in pieces)
Sabena plane crash
Similar thing but a bit harder to get to. Near Gander
Salvage
A very typical, charming fishing town. Some good hikes, a new brewery, and I also saw whales here.
Eastport / Sandy Cove Beach
Really beautiful beach, worth getting off the highway (Mikie says he saw Beluga whales here once but that's not super common)
Vernon's Antique Toy Museum
An impressive antique car collection from this really rich guy Vernon, who is usually at the museum himself. Really nice guy. The cars are beautiful and he also has an Elvis memorabilia collection.
